PCMHA: U15 B League Decision
PCMHA was approached shortly after the completion of the U15A tryouts by a number of parents regarding the possibility of the creation of a U15B team for the 2022/23 season.
The request was tabled and discussed at the October 10, 2022 board of directors meeting, followed by several further discussions throughout the week. Board members engaged the two available leagues to determine whether a team could be involved, Scotia Minor Hockey League (SMHL), and Central Minor Hockey League (CMHL) and arrived at the following findings:
SMHL - currently only 4 teams active in the U15 B division, all of which are based out of SW Nova (South Shore, Yarmouth, Clare and Acadia).
CMHL - reception to join this league was “warm”, however U15B games in this league are only 50 minutes in duration, with many taking place during the week and having start times of 8-9pm.
When these factors are taken into consideration, along with the uncertainties of winter weather, and perhaps most importantly, no body contact in any B leagues in Nova Scotia, the value to our players continued development by participating in either of these leagues was not felt to be in the best interests of PCMHA players.
As such, the Board voted in favour of not pursuing either of these options; we understand that some will be disappointed with this decision. PCMHA is committed to making the 2022/23 season competitive and will continue to work with our division coordinator to ensure continued development opportunities for our U15C players.
