#HockeyComesTogether

2020-04-20

Good afternoon everyone,

Our hockey season came to a very abrupt and unexpected end last month.

For some, hopes of a provincial championship were dashed in an instant. For others, it marked the premature conclusion of a minor hockey career. For more, it simply meant the end of hockey fun with friends.

While the COVID-19 global pandemic has changed the world around us, we believe that it shouldn’t prevent your teams from getting together to celebrate your club's hockey successes.

That’s why we want YOU AND YOUR TEAM to come party with US

On Saturday, April 25th, we want every hockey team in Nova Scotia to gather online at 6 p.m. for our #HockeyComesTogether Party, an end-of-year celebration of the 2019-20 season.

No, we won’t all be in the same party. But we will all be doing the same thing: celebrating with our teammates.

We recommend that you set up your individual team parties over the Zoom platform. Click here, you will find an easy, step-by-step manual that will help you set up your team’s Zoom party.

DATE: Saturday, April 25th
TIME: 6 p.m.
LOCATION: Zoom

So… are you in?

We will be promoting the #HockeyComesTogether Party in our upcoming From the Branch to the Blue-Line newsletter that will be released later today. Even if your team has already had a virtual end-of-year party, we encourage you all to join our provincial hockey community in celebration again.

We want this to be the biggest and best online event of its kind. That’s why we’re encouraging all participating teams to share screenshots and photos from their parties by using the #HockeyComesTogether hashtag. Don’t forget to tag Hockey Nova Scotia in your FacebookTwitter, and Instagram posts.

Next week, we will be providing more resources and a party planner to help ensure that your team event goes off without a hitch.

It is important to note that if you are using the Basic (free) Zoom package, the “party” length is capped at 40-minutes. So we encourage you to be prepared! Please see the attached manual for more details.

In the spirit of camaraderie, we recommend that all of your players wear their team jersey if they still have it. If they don’t, they should wear their favourite hockey sweater or sport-related article of clothing.

We will be sending out more ideas next week but a few topics that could be discussed during the party include:

  • Favourite hockey moments of the past season (helping a teammate, scoring a goal, going away with your team to a tournament, or something that your team did together in the community, etc.)
  • What are some of the things that you are grateful for this past season?
  • What was the funniest hockey moment this season?
  • What are some of the hockey skills that you have developed over the past year?
  • How have your coaches helped you this past season?
  • What are you currently doing to stay active and/or work on your skills at home?
  • How will you and your team be taking part in Hockey Nova Scotia’s #RideThePineForNS campaign?

On April 25th, let’s make sure that #HockeyComesTogether to celebrate our amazing game.

Thank you for all of your help and support.

Stay healthy and safe!
