This past week-end the Pictou County Bantam A Crushers were the first Bantam A team to participate in the  32nd Bantam Memorial Tournament and they came away as silver medalists with a tournament record of 4-1-0.

On Friday morning, they faced off against the Antigonish Bulldogs and they came away with a 6-3 win.   Ian MacDonald and Brycen MacDonald both scored twice with Sam Hickey and Jayden Hatchard netting singles.   Assists went to B. MacDonald (2), Raymond Chisholm (2), Hickey (2),  Evan Shea, Nole Chapman, Spencer Murray,  and Thomas Devine.  Vaughn MacEachern was solid between the pipes.  Sam Hickey was named Player of the Game.

Later on Friday, the Crushers met the Sydney Steelers and shut down the other teams offense to win 2-0.  Scoring for the Crushers was Luke Young, unassisted, and  Murray with assists to Chisholm and Ian MacDonald.  Keegan Walker recorded the shut-out and earned Player of the Game honors.

In their third round robin game on Saturday, the Crushers earned their third straight win against the Strait Richmond Pirates.   Chapman, Kyle Reim, Hatchard, Hickey, B. MacDonald, and Murray scored for the Crushers.  Assists went to Evan Reynolds (2), Hickey, Evan Shea, Reim, Jansen Langille, I. MacDonald, and Thomas Devine.  MacEachern earned the shut-out in goal.  Player of the Game was awarded to Nole Chapman.

Being undefeated in round robin play placed the Crushers in first place heading into the cross-over round.  The team met the Sydney Steelers once again on Sunday morning.  The Crushers found themselves down 2-0 in the second period, but Murray netted the Crushers first goal of the game just before the end of the second with the assist from Ian MacDonald.  The Crushers continued to battle but time was running out.  After pulling the goalie for the extra man advantage,  Chapman fired a quick shot at the net on a pass from  Reim and tied the game sending them to overtime.   Thirty seconds into overtime,  Young netted the winning goal earning the team a spot in the Championship Final.  Chapman was named Player of the Game.   Walker was solid between the pipes.

In the Championship game, the Crushers battled hard against a tough Dartmouth Whalers team.   Hatchard opened the scoring for the Crushers on an assist from Reim.  Reim netted the second goal with assists to Hatchard and Reynolds.  B. MacDonald kept them in the game with the third goal, assisted by Hickey and Chapman.   Young netted the fourth goal for the Crushers from Chapman and Shea.  The Crushers came away as Silver Medalists with a final score of 8-4.   MacEachern was between the pipes.  Brayden Killen and Logan DeCoste played solid defense for the entire Tournament.  Young was named Player of the Game for the Championship final.

At the closing ceremonies for the Bantam A division, Sam Hickey was named to the  Tournament All-Star Team.  Vaughn MacEachern received the Gladwin Trophy for Best Goaltender, and Nole Chapman received the I.C.E.  Award for the Pictou County Player who best exemplifies Intensity, Contribution and Effort throughout the tournament.   The Bantam A Crushers were proud to be a part of such a meaningful tournament and would like to thank all those that participated in and made the 32nd Bantam Memorial Tournament possible.
