Bantam A Crushers Compete at Ossie Fraser Memorial Tournament

The Pictou County Bantam A Crushers participated in the Ossie Fraser Memorial Tournament in Coxheath, NS this past weekend.  The team had a competitive showing, despite the team coping with illness and injuries, but they came up one goal short of making it into the cross-over round.
 
In the first game on Friday, the Crushers faced the Glace Bay Miners.  The Crushers’ generated a lot of offense, winning the game 8-3.  Scoring for the Crushers was Brycen MacDonald with two, and Evan Shea, Jayden Hatchard, Ian MacDonald, Luke Young, Nole Chapman and Kyle Reim, all with singles.  Assists when to Ian MacDonald, Shea (2), Young and Chapman.  Brycen Mac Donald was named Player of the Game. Keegan Walker earned the win in nets.
 
Later the same day, the Crushers met their neighboring rivals, the Antigonish Bulldogs and tallied their second win with a final score of 5-1.  Hatchard opened the scoring with assists from Sam Hickey and Reim.  Ian MacDonald, assisted by Shea, Thomas Devine, assisted by Chapman, Reim from Hatchard, and Hatchard from Reim rounded out the scoring.  Nole Chapman received Player of the Game.  Vaughn MacEachern was solid between the pipes.
 
The Crushers played the Cole Harbour Red Wings in their first game on Saturday, with both teams having two wins under the belts.  Sam Hickey scored the first goal of the game at the end of the first period, assisted by Kyle Reim.  Cole Harbour scored in the middle of the second to tie and then scored the go-ahead goal in the third.  Crushers were unable to tally another, with a final score of 2-1 in favor of Cole Harbour.  Player of the Game went to Keegan Walker who had a stellar game in goal.
 
In order to advance to the cross-over round, the Crushers had to at least tie with the host team, Cape Breton County Islanders.  When the Crushers were down by three goals in the third, Jansen Langille fired one from the point that made it through traffic and found the back of the net.  The assist went to Devine.  With four minutes left in the third, Hickey scored, assisted by Hatchard and Young.  The Crushers put the pressure on in the final minutes, but ended up losing 3-2, one goal short of putting them through to the semi-finals.  Evan Reynolds received Player of the Game.  Vaughn MacEachern was strong in nets.
 
This week-end the Crushers play a home and home against the Truro with their home game taking place on Sunday morning at the Pictou County Wellness Center.
