Newsworld's journalist and championship curler Colleen Jones was in New Glasgow to host Newsworld Morning with Jon Sim of the New York Islanders on February 8, 2008 from John Brother MacDonald Stadium in New Glasgow. Jon was home in Pictou County to co-host the satellite feeds from the Westside Winter Carnival in New Glasgow as part of CBCs Hockey Day in Canada on February 9 with Linda Kelly.
Jon Sim on beahlf of the NHL Players Association announced the presentation of 50 sets of hockey gear to be available to associations across Pictou County. Jon is pictured with representatives from Westville, Stellarton, New Glasgow, Thorburn, Trenton and Pictou following the Newsworld broadcast from John Brother MacDonald Stadium. Jon also announced that the Goals and Dreams program plans to provided an additional 25 sets by the summer. Nearly 20 sets had previously been donated to children throughout Pictou County.
Colleen Jones, host of CBC's Newsworld is shown on ice with some of the Pictou County Atom Girls team and the New Glasgow Atom B team to wish Canada good morning the day before Hockey Day in Canada.In addition to the Atom teams, New Glasgow Pee Wee B Bombers and Pee Wee Rec Bombers as well as the AG Baillie Bears and the Temperance Street/Acadia Tigers also played during the CBC broadcast.
New Glasgow's Jon Sim, currently on the roster of the New York Islanders and his wife Marla along with their children Landon and Lane were special guests at the February 7 Pictou County Weeks Junior A Crushers game agsinst the Truro Bearcats at JBM Stadium.Jon and his family are pictured with New Glasgow Mayor Ann MacLean who presented Jon and sons with New Glasgow jerseys as well as a New Glasgow tartan shawl and Scottish brooch to Marla ,who is also orginially from New Glasgow.
