Wonder Auto Bantam AA Crushers Have a Good Showing at Royal Canadian Legion Challenge Cup

The Wonder Auto Bantam AA Crushers faired out well at the recent Royal Canadian Legion Bantam AA Challenge Cup in Sydney, which consisted of top AA teams from across the province. The Crushers finished with a record of 2-2 among some strong competition.
Game 1 went Thurday night at Centre 200 vs the Northside Vikings. The Crushers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Northside 4-1. Scoring for the Crushers were Liam Fraser with 2, singles to Brayden MacDonald and Spencer Creed.  Assists going to Parker Hickey, Kyle Walsh, Alex MacKinnon, Matt Martin and Luke Sheehan. Nick Laffin was solid in goal for the Crushers, getting the win. Player of the game award went to Zach Houston. The Crushers win also came with a huge loss, as Liam Fraser received an upper body injury that will see him sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks.
Game 2 went Friday vs the Cape Breton West Screaming Eagles. The Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but the Crushers answered back with 3 goals to take the game 3-2.  Scoring for the Crushers were Sam McDow, Parker Hickey, and Matt Martin. Assists going to Matt Munroe, Kyle Walsh, and Brayden MacDonald. Ryan Royles picked up the win in goal. Player of the game award went to Matt Martin. On Saturday, the Crushers played games 3 and 4 of the tournament. 
Game 3 went against the Cape Breton County Islanders. The Crushers carried a 4-2 lead late into the third period, on a pair of goals by Alex MacKinnon, and singles to Sam McDow and Michael MacGillivary.  Assists going to MacGillivary with 2, Riley Sheehan, Kyle Walsh, Matt Martin, Brayden MacDonald and Daniel Molyneaux. However, with 3 minutes remaining in the game, the CB Islanders outworked the Crushers, scoring 3 quick unanswered goals, with the game winner coming with only 27 seconds remaining, to take the game 5-4. Player of the game award went to Michael MacGillivary.
Game 4 went against the Cole Harbour Red Wings at County Arena in Coxheath. The Crushers put up a fight, but were outplayed by the powerful Red Wings squad. The Crushers fell to the Wings, 7-0. Player of the game award for the Crushers went to Matt Munroe. The Dartmouth Whalers won the Challenge Cup by defeating Cole Harbour 3-1 in the final. The Wonder Auto Bantam AA Crushers play a pair of home games this coming weekend at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. The first game will go Saturday at 1:00pm vs the Western Valley Spartans. The second game goes Sunday at 9:15am vs the Truro Bearcats.
